For me, poetry is a practice of transformation. It is the use of language and imagery to help a person pass through a state of being. Our work in therapy is like this too. We slow down enough to settle in the hard place, and then use language and observation to open our hearts enough to let in the medicine. We write a poem together.
My writing is informed by my work as a therapist, my Buddhist practice, and my commitment to life and liberation. My poetry helps me share the truth of my work and my life more broadly, letting it reverberate outside the clinic.
